2-0:Real's First La Liga Loss

Real Madrid wasted the opportunity to lead the standings after their visit to Valencia. The Whites were defeated by the two targets that Valencia hit during this beautiful and sporting game. The locals had a great warming atmosphere in their favour together with an early 1-0 score thanks to Mista’s goal. The visitors did not had many gaps to break through the organised local defence. Besides, Oliveira (scorer of the second target) came up with some quick counterattacks that jeopardized Casillas’ goal. It is the first Liga loss this year for Real. Now it is time to focus on the next visit to Porto.

Queiroz made some changes to his tactics after the break. Figo moved over to the left flank and Beckham to the right one. Cambiasso and Zidane took care of the midfield. Nine minutes later, the coach put more emphasis on the attack by sending out Portillo. These changes meant a better control of the ball but without many scoring opportunities. Valencia did not change its tactics though, they prefered to take advantage of any slip and leave it to the speed of their forwards.

The whole thing went worse as the game went on. Madrid still did not find any gap and Valencia was coming up with more and more dangerous actions. One of them led to the second local goal. Valencia consolidated the win without giving up on their fight. Nobody could possibly felt disappointed after tonight’s show on the field. It was the thrill of football on stage. By the way, the smoke in the air came from the burning of nearby rice fields.
